Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday October 26th 2004
Starlene turned down the sound of the TV when she heard the knock on the front door of Tiffany's apartment.
"Who is it?" she called out as she walked across the hardwood floors.
"It's me," Tiffany said as Starlene opened the door.
"Hi Tiffany. How did it go with Skeeter?" she asked as her sister walked into the apartment and closed the door behind her.
"He did collect first and last month's rent from that girl," Tiffany said opening her purse and taking out the folded money and showing it to Starlene.
"That's cool. At least you don't have to worry about the rent while you're laid off from your job."
"Yeah, I just hope I like her. He said she brought a few things over yesterday. Have you been in the bedroom to see if anything was there?" Tiffany asked as the two sisters walked towards Starlene's former bedroom.
"No. I've been watching TV. You mean he even gave her the key before you had a chance to meet her?" Starlene asked.
"Yeah. That's why I'm so upset with him. I told him to just weed out the applicants so I could interview them when I got home. I can't believe he took her money, gave her the key and let her move in before I could get back," Tiffany said opening the door to Starlene's bedroom.
"I wonder why he liked her so much?" Starlene said regretting her words immediately.
"Oh so you think Skeeter might have had a fling with her. Is that it?" Tiffany asked annoyed.
"No, nothing like that," Starlene said thinking about her womanizing former brother-in-law.
"Skeeter used to do things like that. I think he's changed. I have to believe that he's being honest with me. He said she had to have an answer and couldn't wait until I got back from Georgia. That's why he rented it."
"Okay. If that's the case then that was nice of him, huh?" Starlene said.
"Yeah," Tiffany said as she walked towards the closet and opened the door.
"Look at that," Starlene said as she and Tiffany looked at the long evening gowns hanging in the closet.
"She has evening gowns," Tiffany said staring at the long risque dresses and sequined covered high heels on the closet floor.
"Take one out and let's look at it," Starlene said reaching for a dress.
"No. We better not," Tiffany said.
"Look at the feather boa," Starlene said as her fingers glided through the pink feathers draped over a hook on the inside of the closet door. "What kind of dancer is this girl?"
"Club dancer," Tiffany said shaking her head.
"What kind of club?"
"I don't know."
"These clothes look like something a stripper might wear."
"I don't think Skeeter would rent your bedroom to a stripper. He knows I'd be furious with him for that," Tiffany said as they heard the key in the front door.
"Hurry, we have to get out of the room. Skeeter said she might come home soon," Tiffany whispered as the two women rushed towards the living room as the front door opened.
