Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday August 10th 2004
"So how long will Manhattan Party Planning be closed?" Starlene asked as she walked into the living room of her sister's Bleecker Street apartment.
"I don't know. I haven't talked to Clark. I guess he'll come back to New York after the funeral," Tiffany said referring to her boss the owner of Manhattan Party Planning where she works as his secretary.
"I wish I'd been here last night when Vinny came by," Starlene said.
"He was really upset."
"I guess he's all upset about Nicole's father," Starlene said taking a seat on the sofa beside her sister.
"Yeah, that was his boss, I suppose," Tiffany said referring to Nicole's father the Mafia boss in Florida.
"I wonder what happened to Nicole's father. I wonder if somebody killed him or something," Starlene said.
"I've been watching the news this morning to see if anything is on about it," Tiffany said.
"Anything on there?"
"Not yet," Tiffany said turning up the volume so they could watch as they talked.
"This is really bad timing for me. I told Stanley that Vinny wanted to marry me today. If for some reason Vinny doesn't come back, then Stanley might not marry me."
"Well don't you think Vinny will come back?"
"I don't know. What if he gets some kind of big promotion after this?" Starlene said thinking about how close she had come to marrying him the other day.
"Is Vinny next in line?"
"I don't know. He wouldn't discuss the business with me."
"You better count your blessings. This better be a lesson for you to stay away from him."
"Vinny said that I shouldn't worry about that stuff. He said I should think about Enron and all of the bad people there. He says they have done worse things than he ever does," she said with conviction.
"Bull," Tiffany said. She glanced at the TV screen and saw a picture of Nicole getting off an airplane in Florida. "Look," she said pointing to the TV scene.
The screen quickly changed to the news reporter standing in front of the Florida airport. "Nicole Masters is the only daughter of the Mafia boss. The funeral will be held tomorrow. It's expected to tie up traffic from West Palm Beach to Miami." The scene changed and the local newscaster appeared giving the winning lotto numbers from last night.
"So it did make the news," Tiffany said.
"Yeah, it looks like it's a big deal. I wish we knew if someone killed him or what happened," Starlene said as the phone rang on the coffee table.
"Hello," Starlene answered.
"Hi Starlene," Stanley said.
"Did you hear that Nicole's father was murdered," Stanley said.
"Murdered? Is that what you heard?" Starlene said glancing towards Tiffany.
"Yeah, gunned down at a restaurant in Miami."
"It's a good thing you didn't marry that Vinny."
"I heard there's a real Mafia war going on in Florida. You might have been a widow by now," Stanley said laughing.
"That's not funny Stanley. What else did you hear?"
