Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday August 9th 2004
Tiffany heard the sound of the key in the front door of her apartment overlooking Bleecker Street. She quickly turned down the sound on the TV and watched as her sister opened the door.
"Hey it's me," Starlene said closing the door and tossing her purse on the table. She walked into the living room as Tiffany turned on the lamp beside the sofa.
"Hi Starlene," Tiffany said as her sister walked towards the sofa and took a seat beside her.
"Well, it's all looking pretty good with Stanley," Starlene said referring to her dinner this evening.
"So you're all made up?" Tiffany asked picking up her wineglass and taking a sip.
"Yeah, I think he's going to marry me. I told him how everything happened with Vinny and me. I told him Vinny bought the marriage license and wants me to go back to City Hall tomorrow and marry him. That really got him going! He said he'd send his car over tomorrow to pick up my stuff if I want to move back in with him," she said grinning broadly.
"That's good," Tiffany said as she refilled her wineglass from the decanter on the coffee table.
"What's the matter with you? I've never seen you drink alone." Starlene said noticing the stress on her sister's face.
"I have some news," Tiffany said.
"What?"
"Vinny came by."
"Oh really? I hope you didn't tell him I was out with Stanley."
"I did tell him."
"Gee, I wish you hadn't done that Tiffany. Why didn't you tell him I went out with friends or something," Starlene asked frowning at her sister.
"Vinny left."
"Left? What do you mean left?"
"He went to Florida. He said he'll call you when he can."
"What? I can't believe this. I thought he wanted me to go back downtown tomorrow and get married. How could he do something like this to me? What if I hadn't made up with Stanley tonight? I'd be high and dry," she said pouting.
"He had to go. Nicole's father died," Tiffany said referring to the Mafia boss in Florida that Vinny worked with.
"Ahh! I can't believe it. Really?"
"Yes."
"Does Nicole know?"
"Yes, she and Clark are already gone to Florida.
"Oh wow. This is big news. What happened? Did he get whacked?"
"I don't know Starlene. But as you can see it's a damn good thing you didn't marry Vinny."
"Do many people know about this?"
"I called Manhattan Party Planning and Clark has left a message that the office is closed due to a death in the family."
"Is that all? I mean do you think the general public will know?"
"I don't know. Why?"
"Because I want Stanley to think that I can marry Vinny at any time. If he knows Vinny is in Florida then he might back out of getting married. You know he has to be threatened or he might not come through."
"That's a great way to start a marriage."
"Well, I have to use whatever leverage I have," she said reaching for the remote for the TV. "I hope this isn't on the news then maybe Stanley won't know Vinny isn't in the picture right now," she said flipping the channels until she found the local New York news.
