Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday June 2nd 2004
Starlene unlocked the door to the apartment on Bleecker Street and pushed it open. "Tiffany it's me," she called out into the dimly lit apartment.
Tiffany and Skeeter quickly sat up on the sofa as Tiffany reached to turn on the lamp.
"Oh I didn't know Skeeter was here," Starlene said as she watched her ex-brother-in-law run his fingers through his thick dark hair. Tiffany was busy zipping her jeans.
"We were just talking," Tiffany lied as she pulled her blouse down in the front and wiped her smeared lipstick.
"I see you were," Starlene said grinning as she tossed her purse on the table. "I hate to interrupt you. I could just go to bed. It's getting late," she said waiting for a cue from her sister.
"Oh no. I have to get to bed soon and Skeeter has to go home," Tiffany said nodding towards his apartment next door.
"I've interrupted the two of you," Starlene said hesitating to take a seat in the chair across from the sofa.
"No. We want to know what happened with you and Stanley. We were just talking about it," Tiffany said.
"Well, it went pretty good, I guess," Starlene said taking a seat and unfastening her high heel sandals.
"I bet he was glad to be with you again," Skeeter said eyeing her voluptuous bosom in the low cut dress as she bent down to take off her shoes.
"He seemed to have missed me. But now we have all these other people involved that are getting between us," she said.
"So you talked about Lola?" Tiffany asked watching Skeeter for a reaction since he once had an affair with the older celebrity.
"Yeah, he swears it was innocent. He says they went to lunch at the new Time Warner Building that day we saw them on Columbus Avenue," she said referring to the sister's spotting the couple together.
"What about the jewelry store window? Why were they looking at diamond rings in that window?" Tiffany asked through narrowed eyes.
"He said it was just innocent looking."
"I don't know," Skeeter said under his breath.
"What? What do you know Skeeter?" Starlene asked.
"I'd just watch him Starlene. He and Lola were a couple for a long time."
"But it's been over for a long time too," Starlene said repeating Stanley's words.
"Did he tell you why Lola answered the phone at his house?" Tiffany asked referring to the other day when Starlene had called and Lola answered Stanley's phone.
"He said they just stopped by there after lunch," Starlene said.
"I don't know," Skeeter muttered under his breath.
"Why do you keep saying that Skeeter?" Starlene asked frowning.
"Nothing," he said lighting a cigarette and blowing a smoke circle.
"Yes it is something. Do you know something about Lola and Stanley? I mean you did date her a little while and we both know it," Starlene said glancing at Tiffany.
"Yeah, Tiffany knows I saw Lola a while," Skeeter admitted hoping this wouldn't start the same old line of questioning from Tiffany again tonight.
"I believe him. I believe Stanley and Lola are just friends. He's going to marry me," Starlene said leaning back in the chair.
"Did he say that?" Skeeter asked.
"Well, I could tell... the way things went after dinner," she said raising her eyebrows.
"You mean the two of you are back in the sack again?" Skeeter asked.
"Sure. I love Stanley. I want to marry him."
"I don't know Starlene. I think you're letting that old man get his way too easy," Skeeter said.
"Skeeter why don't you just say what you mean?" Starlene said angrily as Tiffany nodded in agreement as she stared at her ex-husband.
