Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday April 1st 2004
Starlene filled her hand with popcorn and took a bite as she watched the evening gossip show on TV.  She couldn't help but feel resentful when she saw the starlets on the TV screen as they walked into the China Club with their handsome rock star dates.  She glanced at the time on the TV and realized that her older lover Stanley should be getting home now and finding the note that she had left him.  She glanced at her suitcases beside the front door of her sister Tiffany's apartment.  She'd planned to unpack tonight but changed her mind.  She decided to hold out hope that Stanley would call after coming home and finding the note that she had left him saying she was tired of waiting for him to commit to marriage. She hoped he would be so distraught that he would rush over and they would take the first flight to Vegas for a quickie marriage.  She heard a noise in the hallway outside the front door and quickly picked up the remote to turn down the sound on the TV. She listened wondering if it would be Tiffany's ex-husband Skeeter coming home to his apartment next door. She had promised she would phone her sister and tell her so that she could call Skeeter from wherever she was with her lover Amir.  As soon as Tiffany had revived her relationship with her ex-husband Skeeter, her wealthy lover Amir had come back to town.  Her cell phone on the coffee table rang interrupting her thoughts.  She quickly reached for the phone.
"Hello" she answered.
"Starlene," Stanley said.
"Yes Stanley," she answered.
"Starlene I'm going to be a little late getting home tonight honey.  I have to go out to dinner with some business friends," he said as he watched his limo driver slow down in the traffic in Times Square.
"Oh!  I thought you were already home," she said disappointed that he hadn't seen her note yet.
"No sweetie.  Did you have a nice day?"
"Yes Stanley I did," she said unable to hide her disgust.
"What's the matter Starlene.  I can hear that tone in your voice.  Are you angry because I'm going to be late coming home?"
"No, it's not that Stanley," she said as she heard a noise in the hallway again. She picked up the remote to the TV and quickly turned down the sound. She clearly heard the sound of the apartment door open in the hallway next to Tiffany's.  She quickly jumped up with the phone and ran towards the door to look out through the peephole.  As she was running towards the door with the phone she stubbed her toe on a chair.
"Darn!" she said stopping to rub her toe.
"I won't be that late Starlene," Stanley said.
"It's not
that Stanley.  I stubbed my toe," she said annoyed with him.
"Oh I'm sorry honey.  Want me to call you later?" he asked as the limo pulled up in front of Sardi's Restaurant.
"No," she said.  "I mean wait a minute," she said throwing the phone down and running to the front door to look out.  She flipped up the metal lid on the peephole and started to look out when she heard the door close.  "Darn" she said as she walked back to the sofa and picked up her phone.
"Hello," she said her voice filled with frustration.
"What's the matter did you hit your toe again honey?"
"No Stanley.  I didn't hit my toe again," she said annoyed that she had missed seeing if that was Skeeter coming home to the apartment next door.
"What's the matter honey?  I won't be that late," he said as he motioned for the driver to pull up in front of the restaurant.
"Stanley I don't care when you get home."
"Starlene!  Why are you so angry tonight?"
"I left you Stanley," she said glancing at her suitcases by the front door.
"What are you talking about Starlene," he said as his driver pulled the long car to the curb.
"Just what I said Stanley.  I left you tonight.  You'll see my note when you get home," she said as she heard a noise in the apartment next door.
"Are you serious?"
"Why honey?  I thought you were happy."
"I told you if you didn't marry me I'd leave you.  I got tired of waiting Stanley. I'm gone," she said as she heard something in the apartment next door hitting the wall.
"Where are you Starlene?"
