Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday February 25th 2003
Starlene heard the front door close of her apartment across from Washington Square Park.  "That you Tiffany?" she called out picking up the remote for the television and turning down the sound on Entertainment Tonight.
"Yes, it's me," Tiffany said walking into the living room as she took off her coat.  "What's the matter with you?" Starlene said taking her bare feet off the sofa and sitting up to watch her sister.
"I've just had it. Completely had it with Skeeter," Tiffany said referring to her estranged husband. She took of her jacket tossing it on the back of a nearby chair then taking a seat.
"I guess your meeting with Skeeter for drinks didn't turn out so good?"
"No. I never should have met with him in the first place."
"Well, what happened?"
"He lied to Jan about where he was tonight.  He told her he was working."
"What do you care if he lied to her."
"Well, I don't, but it just goes to show you how he is.  Nothing has changed with that man."
"That's it? That's what has you all riled up like this?"
"No. I was talking to him about
us. Remember when you called me on my cell phone? While I was talking to you, out of the corner of my eye I saw him rubbing the waitresses leg," Tiffany said feeling the tears starting to come to her eyes.
"Get out?  What nerve."
"Yeah. I just couldn't believe it.  I guess he's been going down to that bar every night.  He's been seeing her and taking her upstairs while he's engaged to Jan. Now he's trying to get me involved with him again."
"What did you do?"
"I called him on it.  He swore to me I was wrong that he didn't touch her."
"He's such a liar Tiffany."
"Nothing has changed with him.  He just can't be honest or faithful. Then on top of that Jan walked in and I ran into her at the door when I was leaving," Tiffany said shaking her head.
"Oh my Lordy.  What happened then?" Starlene asked in her thick southern accent.
"She spotted Skeeter at the back of the bar immediately.  Then she said 'Are you going to tell me it's a coincidence that you and Skeeter are at the same bar?'"
"I bet you let her have it didn't you?"
"No. I was so angry at Skeeter and I could feel that little waitress standing there listening and I was so humiliated.  I just told her that I met him there to tell him I was going to sign the divorce papers tonight. I told her that I didn't want to be the one standing in the way of the two of them getting married."
"Oh I guess she was pleased to hear that."
"Well, you know something?  I don't care. I think Skeeter being married to Jan Morgan might be the worst punishment of all."
"That's true."
"And that little flirty waitress overheard every word between us too. I can just tell she's been with Skeeter. It's hard to tell how much trouble she caused him after I left."
"Oh how funny. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall."
"Me too. It's all Jan's problem now. She deserves him," Tiffany said.
"Well, we'll see if they get married," Starlene said thoughtfully.
"Why?  You called me while I was with him. You said something about 'I better be careful with Skeeter.' What was that all about Starlene?"
"Stanley told me not to tell you, but of course I am…" Starlene said hesitating.
"He's offered to pay Skeeter off if he won't marry her," Starlene said raising her eyebrows as she watched the expression on Tiffany's face.
"Well, that changes everything doesn't it?"
"What do you mean?"
"I better think about this a little more.  I don't want to make it too easy for him do I?"
"Wouldn't you rather just get on with your life?"
"How much money did Stanley offer?" Tiffany asked.
