Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Friday September 6th 2002
"I don't know Starlene maybe this is crazy," Tiffany said taking another sip of her iced coffee.
"No it's not. You said you heard Nicole's voice in the background when you called Skeeter's apartment, right?" Starlene asked.
"Yeah. But what are the chances of us catching them together?"
"I'd say they're really good. I mean look… we've got a good seat. If they come out of his apartment we're going to see them. Just keep drinking your coffee," Starlene said as they sat at the sidewalk table of a coffeehouse on Bleecker Street.
"But Starlene. What can I do? I mean if Nicole does come out of Skeeter's apartment, I can't say anything. If I say anything to her then surely Clark will fire me," she said referring to Nicole's husband and her boss.
"Look I'm sick of Nicole. She cheated with my Stanley a couple of times. I caught them in the act once," she said remembering the time she opened Stanley's office door and he and Nicole were intimately involved on the sofa in his office. "Nicole just married Clark and you think you heard her voice in your estranged husband's apartment. The hussy is out of control. I've wanted to get her for a long time," Starlene said tapping her long nails on the table as she glanced towards Skeeter's apartment building across the street.
"This is too hard for me. I don't know if I can handle finding out for sure that Skeeter's involved with her. I just don't know how I'll work in the same office with Nicole and Clark," Tiffany said.
"Look Tiffany, it was your idea to try to catch Nicole cheating. Clark told you to take the afternoon off. You said yourself that Clark sounded like he was going to fire you for all of the bad publicity you got with Amir. Am I right?"
"Yeah, but…" Tiffany said looking down in guilt.
"Look, you being involved with Amir is innocent."
"He's married Starlene."
"You didn't know that when you started seeing him."
"But I know now. His wife is out of the coma and she moved from his island to New York to be with him. I still saw him after I knew this."
"But you were already in love with him. Clark should understand that. Just because Amir's his client doesn't stop the two of you from falling in love."
"But Amir's wife is missing now. It's much worse. The publicity is really bad. Oh, if only Skeeter hadn't stopped by our apartment that day and heard Amir's voice," she said remembering the last time she had been with her lover.
"Skeeter called the TV reporters too. You know damn well he did Tiffany."
"And you're getting fired because of the media attention while Skeeter's upstairs with Nicole right now," she said pointing across the street to Skeeter's apartment. "It just isn't right."
"Yeah. I know."
"You're just getting chicken," Starlene said smiling at her sister.
"Maybe they've already left though," Tiffany said dreading the confrontation.
"We were here in less than ten minutes after you called. If she's up there, I bet she's still there. Look you go ahead and leave if you want. I can stay and catch her," Starlene offered.
"No. No. I'll stay. What should I do if they do come out together though?" Tiffany asked glancing across the street at Skeeter's apartment building then picking up a packet of Sweet and Low from the dish on the table.
"I'll handle it," Starlene said. "I know this puts you in a bad position since you have to work for Nicole's husband. But I've got a score to settle with Nicole. She tried to take my Stanley and she'll do it again. I'm not married to Skeeter and I don't have a job to lose over this. I'll handle it," Starlene said as she watched Tiffany stirring her coffee.
"Thanks Starlene. I don't know what I would do without you. This has been the worst day," Tiffany said thinking about the fact that Clark had practically fired her before he told her to take the afternoon off.
"It's getting a lot better starting right now," Starlene said as she watched the door to Skeeter's apartment building open and Nicole walked out.
