Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday January 21st 2002
Skeeter glanced towards Nicole before opening his apartment door. He watched her smooth down her short leather skirt.
"Skeeter I want to talk to you," Jan demanded from the outside of the door, beating it with her fist.
"Go ahead," Nicole said exhausted from the day. She had spent lunch with her boyfriend Vinny in his room at the Washington Square Hotel. Vinny's surprise visit to where she worked and the proceeding rendezvous had made her two hours late meeting Skeeter for their date at his apartment.
Skeeter opened the door to his apartment and watched as Jan's mouth dropped open when she saw Nicole standing in his living room.
"Well, and what is going on here?" Jan asked walking into the apartment as Skeeter closed the door behind her.
"I'm here with Skeeter," Nicole said flatly.
"I see that. So I suppose you don't have hot water in your apartment again and you came over to take a shower," Jan said remembering the last excuse Nicole and Skeeter had used when she caught the two of them alone in his apartment.
"No Jan. I have plenty of hot water," Nicole said watching Jan take off her full-length mink and toss it over the chair near Skeeter.
"Want something to drink?" Skeeter asked Jan.
"No. I want to talk," Jan said taking seat in the chair.
"I'll have a drink," Nicole said.
"You really want one?" Skeeter asked worried about leaving the two women alone in the living room.
"Yeah. Bring me a strong one," Nicole said.
"No. One of those that you drink," Nicole said not being able to remember what the drink was called.
"Yeah, Skeeter bring me one of those." She took a seat on the futon where Skeeter and her had been passionately involved only minutes earlier.
"What are you doing here Jan?" Nicole asked crossing her legs as she watched Jan eye her suspiciously.
"I think I'm the one that should be asking you Nicole."
"I'm here because I like Skeeter," Nicole said smugly.
"What do you mean, like Skeeter?" Jan asked eyeing the short leather skirt Nicole was wearing.
"I mean that Skeeter and I were going to his bedroom before you came to the door."
"Well, and what do you think Vinny will think about that?" Jan asked her voice rising as she quickly stood up and started pacing the floor in front of the futon.
"Who's going to tell him Jan?" Nicole asked putting her feet on the coffee table in front of the futon.
"Maybe I will Nicole," Jan said angrily turning and watching Skeeter walk back into the living room with two glasses of straight Bourbon on ice.
"You're going to tell Vinny?" Nicole asked taking the Bourbon that Skeeter handed her. She watched as Skeeter took a long sip of his Bourbon and walked towards the window of the apartment to stand clear of the two women.
"Yes I will tell Vinny," Jan said.
"Who is Vinny?" Skeeter asked gripping his glass as he watched both women turn to look at him.
"Her boyfriend that she was just with at the Washington Square Hotel," Jan snapped.
"Really?" Skeeter asked glancing towards Nicole.
"Yeah. We were talking. We used to be engaged," Nicole said.
"Oh," Skeeter said downing the remainder of his drink starting to feel uncomfortably warm in the flannel shirt he was wearing.
"And what's going on here with the two of you? I might have to mention this to your Father when I get back to the office," Nicole said watching Jan grab her mink coat from the chair and start towards the front door. "He usually writes your allowance check near the end of the month doesn't he Jan?" Nicole asked smiling as she crossed her feet on the coffee table.
